Salam Agha, I am reading a book “the succession to Muhammad” by wilfred madelung, he says that shiites interpretation is wrong and gives an explanation saying if the verse is mekkan then the verse demand is for the love of the faithful for the prophet to whom they are related by blood (address to the Quraysh). if the verse is medinan, where muslims were not related to Prophet by blood ties, this verse means love towards relatives in general. I hope I am clear in asking the question, if you can please clarify.

It is not in general it is specific to those in blood relation and faithful of Prophet (saws)
