1) I had a question in regards to the permissibility of caffeinated drinks like coffee, and black tea. In the holy Quran 5:90 “O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, and drawing lots for decisions are all evil of Satan’s handiwork. So shun them so you may be successful.” It mentions that intoxicants are work of Satan and should be avoided, however it seems to be widely okay for people to drink coffee when it’s clearly classified as an intoxicant as it has effects on the body even in small doses. I was wondering if you believe it is haram or halal and why.
2) Every doctor I talk to says caffeine is a clear intoxicant. So by definition if the Quran says intoxicants are forbidden and caffeine is an intoxicant I don’t get how it’s not forbidden. Where do we draw the line of saying something intoxicates you or not. Caffeine causes anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, irritability and many more effects as a result of intoxication.
3) A follow up question would be if coffee is halal, would that make for example coca leaf, or tobacco halal? Since they don’t cause you to lose consciousness or become tipsy/inebriated.
